Facebook removed right-wing political personalities Alex Jones, Paul Nehlen, Milo Yiannopoulos, Paul Joseph Watson and Laura Loomer, along with Jones’ conspiracy theory site, Infowars. They also banned Louis Farrakhan for anti-semitic remarks.

They said that these individuals were considered “dangerous,” according to their new hate speech policies. Jones had been banned from Facebook for some time, but still had a presence on Instagram until the ban yesterday.

Farrakhan was the only non-right-wing personality banned. More bans are expected.

The move represents a renewed effort by the social media giant to remove people and groups promoting hate, racism and anti-Semitism. The company has faced calls for banning hate speech since it was used to incite a massacre in Myanmar.

Critics praised the move but said there is more to be done on both Facebook and Instagram.

Thursday’s announcement comes amid calls for Facebook to go a step farther and list the names of people they’ve banned and th reasons for the ban.

In a statement, Facebook said, “The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today.”
