Rep. Ihan Omar, D-Minn., who has faced staunch backlash from Republicans and Democrats for anti-Semitic remarks, thanked Fox News Monday after the network rebuked host Jeanine Pirro for claiming the freshman lawmaker’s Islamic beliefs put her at odds with the U.S. Constitution. “Thank you, @FoxNews,” Omar tweeted. “No one’s commitment to our constitution should be questioned because of their faith our country of birth.”

Judge Pirro asked viewers Saturday night if Omar’s commitment to wearing the hijab, an Islamic headscarf, is an indication she follows Sharia Law.
“Think about it: Omar wears a hijab,” Pirro said in her opening monologue.”Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?”
Fox News Channel issued an official statement on Sunday condemning Pirro’s critique.
“We strongly condemn Jeanine Pirro’s comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar. They do not reflect those of the network and we have addressed the matter with her directly.”
A Muslim Fox News staffer who produces Bret Baier’s “Special Report” program also rebuked Pirro for her remarks.
“@JudgeJeanine can you stop spreading this false narrative that somehow Muslims hate America or women who wear a hijab aren’t American enough?” tweeted Hufsa Kamal Khan. “You have Muslims working at the same network you do, including myself. K thx.”

Pirro pushed back against the backlash in a statement clarifying what she meant by her comments.
“I’ve seen a lot of comments about my opening statement from Saturday night’s show and I did not call Rep. Omar un-American,” Pirro said. “My intention was to ask a question and start a debate, but of course because one is Muslim does not mean you don’t support the Constitution.”
She then invited Omar “to come on my show any time to discuss all of the important issues facing America today.”
