One person is dead and several others injured in a shooting at Chabad of Poway synagogue in San Diego. A suspect has been detained and is being question by police.
The shooting occurredat about 11:30 a.m. PDT in Poway, a suburb about 30 miles north of San Diego, during the last day of Passover celebration. Passover is a time when Jews commemorate the liberation of the Isrealites from slavery in Egypt.
San Diego Sheriff’s Department tweeted, “Those wounded in the Chabad of Poway shooting were taken to Palomar Medical Center. Please respect the medical privacy of victims & their families during this difficult time. Remain clear of the are as this investigation will take several hours.
San Diego Sheriff Bill Gore, briefing the media on the Poway synagogue shooting, said that:
– 3 of the 4 people (2 adult males, 1 female) shot are alive and recovering

Neighbors and members of the community gathered to offer prayers for those wounded and survivors.
