There has been a shooting today at the UNC Charlotte campus has resulted in 2 people dead and 4 injured. The campus was on lockdown until the shooter was captured and arrested.
An alert from the university alerted students and faculty of the shooting at the Kennedy building, telling them to “Run, Hide, Fight. Secure yourself immediately.”
UNC Charlotte issued the lockdown late Tuesday afternoon, saying shots had been fired. Police arrived and searched from building to building for the suspect, finally capturing him.

Students shared their experiences:
“People were running down the hallways (of the library) yelling shooter,” recounted one student.
Another said, “It was scary…It’s one of things you always see and like this will never happen to me and then next thing you know, you get that text and like, this is for real.”
The scene from local television stations showed chaos as police ran toward the building and students ran away from them.

Tuesday was the last day of classes for the university, which has around 30,000 students. There was no information as to whether the dead and wounded were students, Lester Oliva with the Mecklenburg EMS agency said.
