While Democrats insist President Donald Trump plan to build a wall on along the U.S.- Mexico border is “immoral” and “racist,” Trump on Sunday reminded Americans that President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton also railed against illegal immigration and advocated for a border barrier.

“We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants in this country,” then- Illinois Sen., Barack Obama, warned in 2005 press conference addressing illegal immigration.

At the time, Obama advocated for imposing a “hefty fine” on those already in the country illegally, as well as tighter border security measures.

As New York Senator, Hillary Clinton supported the Secure Fence Act of 2006, which authorized building a 700-mile fence along the border between the United States and Mexico. The legislation passed by an overwhelming 80-19 majority and was also backed by Obama, who as president deported more people than any president in the nation’s history.

“I voted numerous times when I was a senator to spend money to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in. And I do think you have to control your borders,” failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said during a 2015 town hall.

President Trump highlighted Democratic leadership’s hypocrisy on illegal immigration in a series of tweets, referencing Obama and Clinton.

Trump has demanded Congress appropriate $5.6 billion in border security funding, and his dispute with Democrats over the issue has pushed the government into an ongoing partial shutdown, which is now in its third week. Approximately 800,000 federal employees are furloughed or working without pay as a result of the standoff.

After regaining speakership Thursday, Pelosi vowed that no wall of any kind was on the table.

“We’re not doing a wall,” the California Democrat told reporters.” Does anybody have any doubt about that? We are not doing a wall. So that’s that. It has nothing to do with politics. It has to do with: The wall is an immorality between countries. It’s an old was of thinking and [and] it isn’t cost effective.”

Democrats, who have campaigned to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement and have derided Border Patrol agents for using tear gas, insist that a wall is racist and immoral.

The progressive organization Working Families is currently requesting its supporters to sign a petition demanding Congress not to allocate “ONE DOLLAR for Trump’s racist border wall.”

Last month, Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut slammed Republicans for wanting a wall with Mexico but not Canada, a “country filled mostly with white people.” Murphy’s dishonesty is eye-watering.

Yet, according to the Department of Homeland Security, half a million illegals were apprehended sneaking across the southern border in 2018, compared with 324 people crossing illegally from Canada.

The only reason Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats refuse to give any funding to build a wall at the southern border which would dramatically decrease crime, the president maintains, is because they are intent on obstructing his administration’s success.

“The only reason they do not want to build a Wall is that Walls Work!” the president said Sunday. “99% of our illegal Border crossings will end, crime in our Country will go way down and we will save billions of dollars a year! A properly planned and constructed Wall will pay for itself many times a year!”

The president has also called attention to the amount of funding the Obama administration allocated to Iran, while illegal immigrants run rampant across the US southern border.

As Trump left the White House for Camp David on Sunday, he told reporters that he is leaning towards declaring a national emergency to use military funding for his wall, although such a move would be expected to face legal hurdles.

“I may declare a national emergency dependent on what’s going to happen over the next few days,” the president said. “We’ll be letting you know fairly soon.”
